There was a moment in my life not too long ago when the Lord confronted me personally about the fact that I had grown lukewarm in my faith. Then one night, as my wife and I were listening to Dante Bowe's song, “The Real Thing,” we began to pray for a friend who had walked away from his faith years ago. As we were praying for him to experience “the real thing,” to encounter the presence of the Lord, something inside of me turned, and I suddenly felt empty. My soul began crying out to God, “I want the real thing!”

That began an ongoing conversation between me and Jesus. I pleaded my argument, “I thought I had experienced the real thing.” I thought back to four years earlier when I first encountered the experiential presence and filling of the Holy Spirit. Hadn’t that been real? Jesus responded with a soft whisper saying, “Yes, but there is more!”
